On the homotopy groups of spheres in homotopy type theory

چکیده
The goal of this thesis is to prove that π4(S) ' Z/2Z in homotopy type theory. In particular it is a constructive and purely homotopy-theoretic proof. We first recall the basic concepts of homotopy type theory, and we prove some well-known results about the homotopy groups of spheres: the computation of the homotopy groups of the circle, the triviality of those of the form πk(S) with k < n, and the construction of the Hopf fibration. We then move to more advanced tools. In particular, we define the James construction which allows us to prove the Freudenthal suspension theorem and the fact that there exists a natural number n such that π4(S) ' Z/nZ. Then we study the smash product of spheres, we construct the cohomology ring of a space, and we introduce the Hopf invariant, allowing us to narrow down the n to either 1 or 2. The Hopf invariant also allows us to prove that all the groups of the form π4n−1(S) are infinite. Finally we construct the Gysin exact sequence, allowing us to compute the cohomology of CP 2 and to prove that π4(S) ' Z/2Z and that more generally πn+1(S) ' Z/2Z for every n ≥ 3.

A new family in the stable homotopy groups of spheres
Let $p$ be a prime number greater than three. In this paper, we prove the existence of a new family of homotopy elements in the stable homotopy groups of spheres $pi_{ast}(S)$ which is represented by $h_nh_mtilde{beta}_{s+2}in {rm Ext}_A^{s+4, q[p^n+p^m+(s+2)p+(s+1)]+s}(mathbb{Z}_p,mathbb{Z}_p)$ up to nonzero scalar in the Adams spectral sequence, where $ngeq m+2>5$, $0leq sExt}_A^{s+2,q[(s+2)p...
متن کاملDetection of a nontrivial element in the stable homotopy groups of spheres
Let $p$ be a prime with $pgeq 7$ and $q=2(p-1)$. In this paper we prove the existence of a nontrivial product of filtration $s+4$ in the stable homotopy groups of spheres. This nontrivial product is shown to be represented up to a nonzero scalar by the product element $widetilde{gamma}_{s}b_{n-1}g_{0}in {Ext}_{mathcal{A}}^{s+4,(p^n+sp^2+sp+s)q+s-3}(mathbb{Z}/p,mathbb{Z}/p)$ in ...
متن کاملREPRESENTATION THEORY IN HOMOTOPY AND THE EHP SEQUENCES FOR (p− 1)-CELL COMPLEXES
For spaces localized at 2, the classical EHP fibrations [1, 13] ΩS S ΩS ΩS play a crucial role for the computations of the homotopy groups of the spheres [16, 25]. The EHP-fibrations for (p− 1)-cell complexes for p > 2 are given in this article. These fibrations can be regarded as the odd prime analogue of the classical EHP-fibrations by considering the spheres as 1-cell complexes for p = 2. So...
متن کاملON THE CAPACITY OF EILENBERG-MACLANE AND MOORE SPACES
K. Borsuk in 1979, at the Topological Conference in Moscow, introduced concept of the capacity of a compactum and asked some questions concerning properties of the capacity ofcompacta. In this paper, we give partial positive answers to three of these questions in some cases. In fact, by describing spaces homotopy dominated by Moore and Eilenberg-MacLane spaces, the capacities of a Moore space $...
متن کاملQd(p)-FREE RANK TWO FINITE GROUPS ACT FREELY ON A HOMOTOPY PRODUCT OF TWO SPHERES
A classic result of Swan states that a finite group G acts freely on a finite homotopy sphere if and only if every abelian subgroup of G is cyclic. Following this result, Benson and Carlson conjectured that a finite group G acts freely on a finite complex with the homotopy type of n spheres if the rank of G is less than or equal to n. Recently, Adem and Smith have shown that every rank two fini...
